Abuja - Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has revealed that the Senate may issue a warrant of arrest on the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami for refusing to appear before it, Sun reports.
Speaking in Lagos, Dogara said that the constitution was clear on the fact that the National Assembly has the right to summon anybody or officer of government.
He faulted Malami’s position that he’s not answerable to the Senate, saying that for the fact that the Senate confirmed his appointment, he had appeared several times before National Assembly committees.
He said the Senate could also withdraw the confirmation of Malami as minister, since it was the body that confirmed him.
It would be recalled that Malami, failed to appear before the Senate Committee on Legal Matters, Judiciary & Human Rights where a public inquiry into the case of alleged forgery of senate order filed by Malami's office against the Senate President Bukola Saraki, his deputy Ike Ekweremadu and two others was to be held according to News24.
The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters hadsummoned Malami to appear before it to justify why he instituted forgery charges against the Senate leadership.
Rather than appear before the Senate, Malami sent the Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, Okoi Obono-Obla.
